Nostalgia 101! Cassettes make a humble return to the music scene.

Music formats come and go, but never die. The cassette was always the most convenient way to record songs, make playlists, and copy to give to others. Like LP records, the cassette is a physical item that has real “feel appeal.” It’s also much less expensive than a new LP, so it’s been boomtime again for the format with indie bands and other non-mainstream music labels.

Snowplows and sun bonnets. It’s the crazy season of change. Let’s hope all this environmental tumult gives us the Springtime we deserve.
Certainly some of the folks in this month’s newsletter deserve a break. Bad luck, bad judgement, bad news — In the appraisal biz, these sorts of things usually affect valuation. The two examples here are warnings to us all: Something like, “don’t count your chickens…,” or is it, “a surefire investment,” or maybe, it’s just: Watch your head!

Let me tell you the times a woman has called me and said her husband has a huge record collection — and she wants to know the value of it. Why, I ask innocently? Community property. Yep, divorce. It’s probably a good idea for spouses to know what each other has in assets – even if just “worthless old records” – long before it comes to separation. That might make a much happier marriage.
